Nic and I have been talking about redoing the floors in our living and dining room for a couple years now. The cat has peed everywhere and even steam cleaning it monthly doesn’t help. Plus the dirty dog feet and dust was making the carpet really gross. I think it used to be white at some point?! We pulled up the carpet in one corner and just saw grey – thinking it was particleboard.
So we did some researching online on budget friendly wood floors and ended up buying some “floating” snap-together stuff with an oak top layer and HDF core. The night before we were going to install it, Nic started reading terrible reviews about it online and I was all freaked out. But we didn’t really have the money to do anything else, so I proceeded on moving all of the furniture and started ripping up carpet by myself after work. Continue reading →
Happy 6th birthday to Mr. Stickman! What a good dog he has become. So glad that we found each other 5 years ago. Stick is getting gray and a little slower, but still an active boy (the one in the back in the picture).
After 2 years of slacking…the front porch is close to being done. Thanks to my Dad and Nic for rebuilding the roof structure, Nic’s Dad for putting up the lattice, and to my painting skills! It does feel good to drive up to a nice entrance. Also notice the log path made from a huge tree that went down at my parents house and the ceramic moon that my Dad made me for Christmas.
My garden is doing well so far. I have had to cover the plants at night a few times because of frost warnings. Bugs have also gotten into my spinach and destroyed it. I cut it back and and sprayed some diluted hot sauce on it, hoping it will keep the bugs off.
I’m sure you have seen this in an email or on the internet before, but I really like it and I thought that I would share it again! Here are some things to be thankful for:
-I am thankful for the parking space at the end of the parking lot because that means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation -I am thankful for my huge heating bill because it means that I am warm -I am thankful for the pile of laundry because it means I have clothes to wear -I am thankful for weariness and aching muscles because it means I have been productive today -I am thankful for the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means I’m alive -I am thankful for taxes I have to pay because it means that I am employed -I am thankful for the mess I have to clean up after a party because it means I am surrounded by Friends -I am thankful for the clothes that fit a little too snug because that means I have enough to eat -I am thankful for my shadow because it means I am out in the sunshine -I am thankful for the lawn that needs mowing, the windows that need cleaning, gutters that need fixing because that means I have a home
– I am thankful for the vet bills because it means that my pets are happy and healthy -I am thankful for all the complaining we hear about the government because that means we have the freedom of speech -I am thankful for the arguments with my boyfriend because it means I am not going through life alone -I am thankful for the weeds I am pulling in my garden because it means I am not seeing them from six feet under
It has been a year since I have bought my house! It is crazy how time flies by. It has been very nice out for the past month and Nic and I have been getting a lot of things done. The yard is raked and my parents bought me a manual lawnmower. My garden is started but I have been keeping the seedlings inside because of how cold it gets at night. The decks are ready to be stained once it gets warmer outside. We painted one wall of the bedroom and I am going to buy some more paint for the rest of the walls. It will be a lighter color. Once I get that done, I can finally hang pictures and put up shelves! It is coming together slowly.
