Nic and I have been talking about redoing the floors in our living and dining room for a couple years now. The cat has peed everywhere and even steam cleaning it monthly doesn’t help. Plus the dirty dog feet and dust was making the carpet really gross. I think it used to be white at some point?! We pulled up the carpet in one corner and just saw grey – thinking it was particleboard.
So we did some researching online on budget friendly wood floors and ended up buying some “floating” snap-together stuff with an oak top layer and HDF core. The night before we were going to install it, Nic started reading terrible reviews about it online and I was all freaked out. The snow is still not melted and the ice on Lake Superior is still at over 60%. But I was challenged to go for a swim this last weekend. The challenge was brought to me by a friend and then I have to nominate others to do it as well.
It was quite chilly! It was hard to find a spot that was not only deep enough, but wasn’t crowded by icebergs.
As if Michigan does not have enough B.S. going on in Lansing, the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development just took away our Right to Farm. What does this mean? If you have an urban OR rural farm and your local zoning laws prohibit it, you are now unprotected by the Right to Farm Act. Say goodbye to chickens, goats, and bees. This is big.
Last weekend was Mardi Gras at Mt. Bohemia in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Want to know why that is awesome? Girls ski/ride for free that day!
It was a beautiful bluebird day. The wind was low and the temps were finally above zero! We drove up from Marquette for the day and met a bunch of friends. The Keweenaw is definitely not lacking snow this winter. They were already up to a total of 275″!!!! Continue reading →
